The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Wednesday they have signed Raptors 905 centre Edy Tavares to a contract for the remainder of the season.
In 48 games (41 starts) with Raptors 905, Tavares averaged 10.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 23.6 minutes. He led the NBA Development League with 131 total blocks, including a franchise-record 12 on March 25 at Erie, second most in league history. He was also named an NBA D-League All-Star this season.
Last season he played 11 games for the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 2.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 6.6 minutes. Tavares is the second Raptors 905 player to earn a contract this season after Axel Toupane signed with the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.
