Raptors 905 took a 24-point lead into the second half and didn’t look back on Monday evening as the NBA Development League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors defeated the National Basketball League of Canada’s London Lightning 126-108 in pre-season action at a special season ticket and flex/mini-pack holder game at Mississauga Sports Complex.
Scott Suggs paced Raptors 905 in the first half, putting up 15 points by the break as his team led 72-48. Melvin Johnson (11 points) and Shaquille Keith (10 points) also reached double digits for Raptors 905 through the opening two quarters and completed the game with 18 and 10 points, respectively. Kourtney Roberson recorded the game’s only double-double for Raptors 905, notching 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Garrett Williamson led the Lightning at the half with 12 points and ended up with 19 to go with a game-high seven assists, while Tyshawn Patterson recorded a game-high 26 points for London – 22 of which came in the second half.
London put in a strong second half to get the game within 10 in the fourth quarter, outscoring Raptors 905 60-54 in the second half, including a 37-28 third quarter.
Raptors 905 out-shot London all over the court, dropping 55.0 percent of field goals to the Lightning’s 43.9 percent, 53.8 percent from three-point range to London’s 35.5 percent and 86.1 percent from the free throw line compared to their opponent’s 71.4 percent. However, London topped Raptors 905 15-0 in fast-break points.
Eight different Raptors 905 players posted double-digit point totals on the night. In addition to Suggs, Roberson, Johnson and Keith, Michale Kyser (18), Shannon Scott (14), Jay Harris (17) and Ashton Smith (12) also notched 10-plus points.
Raptors 905 opens its regular season schedule on Saturday, November 14 with a road game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at 7:30 p.m. The club will open its regular season home schedule on Thursday, November 19 when it plays host to the Maine Red Claws at Hershey Centre in Mississauga at 7:30 p.m.
